melissel
Specifically, from NJ to NC. We're headed down to the Garner area next week, and my mom wants to avoid 95. Someone suggested 81 to her, but she doesn't know anything about it. Does anyone know this route well? Can you give me an idea of how we should go? TIA! I have traveled 81 to CT and have traveled on 95 quite a bit. You definitely do not get the urban traffic and traffic jams on 81 that you get on 95. However, 81 does run through the mountains, so you want to keep your eye on the weather and 81 gets more truck traffic. If the weather is bad or you are afraid of driving with 18 wheelers, 81 is not the route to take. If I had to choose, though, 81 would be my preferred route. Doran
Rtes. 13 to 17. You'd probably still have to be on the Turnpike (95) to Delaware, but you'd pick up Rte 13 at the Delaware Memorial Bridge. Dh's people are on Long Island, and mine are in High Point, NC, so these are roads we've traveled quite a bit.

The 81 is a reasonably nice drive, though you probably won't make the time you could make on the 95. It's a prettier drive and goes through the mountains.
