Is there a good overarching book for WWII?

Recommended Posts

NO personal experience with either, but I see that Inferno: The World at War (Hastings) is suggested as being similar to A World Undone -- or possibly A World At Arms (Weinberg), which is significantly longer, and from the reviews, a bit drier in writing style.

Much more about the visuals than the writing, but possibly: DK/Smithsonia: World War II: The Definitive Visual History from Blitzkrieg to the Atom Bomb. Or, only from the U.S. perspective: The New York Times Complete World War 2: All The Coverage From the Battles to the Homefront reprints all of the newspaper's articles on the war.

Albert Marrin's books are shorter, focused on specific topics, and at a YA level of reading, but are very engaging in writing style. He has a number of titles on different WW2 topics:
- The Airman's War: World War II in the Sky
- Overlord: D-Day and the Invasion of Europe
- Victory in the Pacific
- The Secret Armies: Spies, Counterspies and Saboteurs of World War II
- Hitler
- Stalin
- Uprooted: The Japanese-American Experience During World War II
