History of the Universe -- resources for upper elementary

My 10-year-old daughter would like to learn about the history of the Universe (Big Bang and on.)  My first thought was to start with George's Secret Key to the Universe by Lucy and Stephen Hawking. Perhaps someone in the Hive has a ready-made list of resources suitable for a curious fifth grader?  Many thanks in advance.

The George books are great.  Your daughter might also like Russell Stannard's Uncle Albert books.

She  is at the upper end of the age range for the following books, but they may still be of interest:

  • Beyond the Solar System, by Mary Kay Carson
  • Exploring the Solar System, by Mary Kay Carson
  • Mysteries of the Universe: How Astronomers Explore Space, by Andrew Einspruch
  • The Story of Astronomy and Space, by Louie Stowell
  • Picture books such as Older than the Stars,  Professor Astro Cat series,  Born with a Bang

Stephen Hawking's Universe series

The Born with a Bang series is pretty awesome.  It can be used with younger kids, but it has lots of great content and they would be very appropriate for upper elementary, as well.  The George books would be good, too.  Montessori Great Lessons might be neat, too.
