We've got a basic microscope and I'd like to use it more. I need a set of activities we can do with it. I'd prefer links to online ideas for a rising 4th grader. We want to learn from it but not undertake too much serious stuff. What sorts of supplies will we need (other than blank slides) to carry out simple but impactful activities?

We have blank slides (& I assume coverslips are their tops?) and a selection of prepared slides. I'm thinking petri dishes to grow stuff in, which we can then look at under the microscope. Dyes are also mentioned in a book I have as are jellies--but the latter I believe can be easily homemade. My 'curricula' are Mystery Science & old elementary science books along with a few kits and experiments books. I afterschool so fit stuff in when I can and as interest allows.

As an aside, I myself find it oddly exhilarating to look at random things under the microscope. We found a piece of a $5 bill in a gas station & pored over it all that day. Perhaps when growing up I never got to 'fiddle' with a microscope and so am making up for lost time, LOL. Good stuff!
