hippiemamato3
Hello! I am wondering if anyone has any experience with using the "Our Whole Lives" curriculum for sex education/body changes as a curriculum at home. I am looking for something that is sex and body positive. Any comments or reviews are welcome!
catz
Both my kids went through OWL in 8th grade at our UU church. My son did some dedicated extra curriculars that year so missed a fair number of classes. We tried to get materials to keep up at home but the curriculum is really written for group settings and discussions. Not that it couldn't be adapted, but I suspect you could pull resources with similar information possibly with less work. My kids got a lot out of the program but there were kids in both their programs that were awkward and poorly behaved ALL year. Maybe they weren't socially mature enough for the content, I don't know. Middle school kids can just be that way in general. It was just good to have discussions about why some kids don't/can't behave well and with maturity in settings like that. Just a side note! I do highly recommend the program!
73349
I agree that OWL is designed for groups. However, they recommend the Robie Harris books for reading at home. Those might be what you're looking for.
