TundraAcademy
We learned this from a PS teacher friend. I think there is an entire curriculum out there, but it is very basic. If you have to add 8 + 5, you start at 8 and touch the 5 in five different spots. It is basically the counting on method, but my 6yo thinks it is so cool! Thought I would pass it on. jensway
Yes it is like having dots on the numbers. :001_smile: I know that is it sometimes used here in the PS if a child is having difficulties with math. Here is a link that will explain what it is: http://www.touchmath.com/
sixpence1978
I actually learned touch math when I was in PS in the 80's. I actually love it. However, I am not particularly strong in my math facts. I know them by now, but it didn't come naturally. My DS was also struggling with his math facts so I taught him how to do touch math. We are still really trying to drill in his facts though. Even with knowing how to do touch math, he still sometimes gets the wrong answer...especially in subtraction when he will go too fast and count backwards wrong. TracyR
I don't have the program but have gotten the catalogs. I use the method with my 2nd daughter because she struggles so much. It really helps her. Just wish their program wasn't so expensive.
coffeefreak
I learned about it at a seminar. This was what finally broke us through the barrier of learning to add and subtract. The great thing about it, is you can use it for multiplication too. You just skip count!
