Hot Lava Mama
I need a good source so my ds almost 9, can learn the prefixes and suffixes. We have some prefixes in the "Roots and Fruits" book (not sure how complete the list is), but no suffixes. Any good books or even games? Thanks! Lori D.
This would be an expensive option, but "Word Skills" (Super Seatwork) by Mary Pecci has sections on prefixes, suffixes, and endings. It also has sections on alphabetizing, plurals, contractions, possessives and more. $19.75 at Rainbow Resource. We used this book very successfully during 3rd-4th grade to practice those skills. The pages are very simple, not overwhelming, with silly drawings and a "homemade" feel to them. Good for review/keeping up those skills. Hope that helps! Warmly, Lori D. Ginger
We're using and loving REWARDS Intermediate by Sopris West. (http://www.sopriswest.com, I believe). I've been using it this year with my 4th grade dd.
Beth in Central TX
Two possible resources: The Alpha List: A Dictionary Focusing on the Logic of English Spelling by Wanda Sanseri (Back Home Industries) The Book of Roots by Paul OBrien (Memoria Press) Neither resource has games though. You could also look into Word Roots by Critical Thinking Press. They have their programs available on CD now, which makes it seem like a game to my boys. NicksMama-Zack's Mama Too
We begin MegaWords in 4th grade and it covers spelling, reading and vocabulary. http://www.epsbooks.com has samples and scope and sequence.
