Maryam
How do these compare in terms of content, student writing progress, college prep, etc.? What are the pros of each (or cons, if any)? I'm deciding for both my high schooler and middle schooler.
Julie of KY
I can't compare. I can just say that I've been happy with Brave Writer online and I've not looked any farther as it suits my needs beautifully. Pros of BW - pick and choose classes as needed; great feedback; great classes for my family Cons of BW - cost, short classes are not year round so you might have to fill in with other stuff (or not); some classes are hard to get into
RootAnn
Bravewriter does not have a live component, so if your kid needs that, don't consider them. BW has a variety of class types where WTMA teaches mostly composition via the protogymnasia (spelling might be off, but you don't want to know what my auto spell check turned it into) plus some poetry, lit analysis, and later rhetoric/speech. Expository Writing is very parts-to-whole, teaching in chunks and later putting them together to form compositions in modular format (vs teaching one particular writing format that you will then have to modify for different uses). It gives your student a toolbox of skills. (I don't know how BW does this, so I am just pointing out how WWS teaches it.) If your kid needs to see the big picture, this method might be too piecewise for them.
