amymeg
Could someone compare these two for me, please? We will be using this with my son who did Lial's Algebra. I have searched the forums quite a bit but I just am not sure have have seen these two compared. Is Chalkdust more rigorous? More appropriate for a bright student? Or would Foerster be better for a student who is just good but not "great," at math? Thank you Pj
EKS
Chalkdust uses the Larson text, which doesn't develop concepts well (IMO) and the applications are...dull and algorithmic (IMO), but I have not seen how Chalkdust augments the text (if it does). Foerster is a rigorous text, with excellent applications. If you want video lectures, you can get them from Math Without Borders. Another option would be Derek Owens. His Algebra 2 course is excellent, though probably not as rigorous as Foerster.
KarenC
I have never used Chalkdust, but I have used Foerster's with 2 dc now and love it. Concepts are explained well, there is enough practice, and plenty of word problems.
