Online Art classes

Recommended Posts

What are you hoping they will get out of it?  I think people could give you better suggestions if they knew the ages of your kids and your goals.  There are tons of resources but on-line classes can be problematic for art.

If you just want young kids to dabble and try out some different mediums I think a self-paced DVD or streaming video you could all watch together and practice the art form would be best.  Mark Kiestler has some.  If you also want to incorporate some art history there are also these https://www.rainbowresource.com/prodlist.php?subject=Art+%2F+Crafts/16&category=Art+Lessons+for+Children+DVDs/6500.

And there are also tons of videos on youtube.

If you are talking a child that is very focused on art and wants to improve technique then maybe a local artist that could work with them one on one would be better but an on-line class might still work if they are very self-motivated.

Honestly, on-line art classes can be less that great because most only meet once a week and can be long, like an hour to an hour and a half.  It can be hard to sit through that if a child is not super motivated to master art techniques.  It is also harder to get direct feedback in a timely fashion.  That being said, DD has had some wonderful instructors that gave lots of VERY useful instruction and feedback.  Both were through Landry Academy, though, and one no longer teaches there.  DD learned a lot but she was very motivated to learn and she was already in Middle School when she took the classes.
