I'm all for encouraging a variety of opinions in a class as long as the kids can explain their positions, cite the text, then discuss it intelligently. With teens, a "shut it down" mentality that puts them on the defensive is almost never as effective as a rational discussion where you explore the issue as a group and tease out facts from opinions.
