kolamum
If you've used this, how long, on average, did it take your student to accomplish the lessons? Aside from OYAN & Cover Story are there any other writing programmes with video or audio lectures?
Mom22ns
OYAN lessons aren't long to watch, but how long it takes your student to accomplish them depends completely on the speed of their creative process. Ds tends to be a slow thoughtful writer and usually spent an hour a day on OYAN, but sometime spent 10+ hours/week. Ds loved OYAN and so did I. I give it my highest recommendation.
kolamum
Thanks Debbie. I suspect that to be the case, but it's nice to hear that from someone else who's used it! :D
Pegasus
DD did Cover Story, OYAN, and is now working on the second OYAN volume (science fiction). Writing seems to be a passion of hers and she spends quite a few hours on writing and participating in the online OYAN forums. She is making slower progress on her science fiction novel because she keeps going off on side trips, writing short stories and such. I guess it is all part of the creative process. I'm letting her lead in this area but will insist on working through Jensen's Format Writing next semester to be sure she is ready for dual enrolling in Freshman Composition her senior year. We haven't looked into other video-based writing courses so I can't speak to that.
Jaz
My dd used Cover Story last year and loved it! She's using The Institute for Excellence in Writing: Student Writing Intensive Group C DVDs this semester for writing skills. She'll start OYAN in January and work through it over a year and a half or so. Then, she'll use IEW's Student Writing Intensive Continuation Course Level C DVDs as a sophomore or junior for longer essay writing skills. My ds used both IEW DVD programs very successfully.
