Lucy the Valiant
In the less-than-$50, hoping-for-around-$20 range? For a 5th grade writing-averse but language-loving boy.
City Mouse
Can you use an online thesaurus for free?
Lucy the Valiant
Yes, *I* could, but *he* gets quite distracted by the WHOLE HUGE AWESOME INTERNET OUT THERE and loses focus on what he is writing. We've been using a paper one, but - I think he would like a digital one and find it cool. (I have an app on my phone for myself, but - just thinking something a little more basic for him.) EKT
For $2.95/month or $19.95/year, you can subscribe to the Visual Thesaurus. (It used to be free and I used it in college, but now it is subscription-based.) But it is SUPER COOL. Basically, you type in a word, and then this visual map pops up, showing the relationship between words. The visual aspect clearly illustrates how certain words mean very much the same thing, but other words are only kinda similar. If you scroll down just a little bit on this page, it will take you to a video, "Introduction to the Visual Thesaurus" that describes how it works.
