mysticmomma Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 DS had some sort of visual tracking issue. It's not dyslexia. I notice it the most when he is reading books with smaller print or tables with information not separated by lines. He was late to read. Phonics instruction did not work for him. Once he started he pretty much did it himself. So... Where do I start!? Quote
wapiti Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 (edited) Go to http://www.covd.org to locate a provider. You can schedule a regular annual vision checkup with a COVD optometrist. The optometrist may screen for issues at that appointment, though a full developmental vision evaluation is a much longer, separate appointment. Be sure to discuss your concerns and ask whether a full eval is warranted. Edited May 31, 2016 by wapiti 4 Quote
Crimson Wife Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 If there is a university reasonably close to you that has a school of optometry, they may be able to do the binocular vision exam much less expensively than a private clinic would. The optometry students would perform the exam but under the supervision of a professor, who would make sure the report is accurate. Quote

That is the vast majority of cases, but not all. And stealth dyslexia can confuse things as well. Quote
