katilac
Oldest has a handle on most of these, and still has a few months before 18, lol. #1: Talking to strangers, no problem. My rule was always 'talking, no walking,' meaning they could talk to strangers but could not 'walk' with them (walk away). #2: Finding your way around - my entire family has an appalling sense of direction, but she has learned to work around it by scoping out class locations ahead of time, and keeping her phone battery charged (GPS for the win!). #3: Managing time/deadlines is no problem for this kid, she was born with a pencil in one hand and a notebook in the other. #4: My kids don't do nearly as much running of the household as many on this board, but they are always willing to help and have a reasonable handle on many chores. She will eventually learn to cook something other than dessert, I suppose. #5: Handling interpersonal problems will probably be slightly tough for her, but not because we have always stepped in and done it for her. It's just hard for some people - me included, and I promise my parents never thought to get involved, lol. It's a good skill to work on, just not one she will master by 18. #6: She can cope with ups and downs and has much experience with things not going her way. #7: She has never had a part-time job working for a stranger. She still has a healthy appreciation for money and manages it well, but hasn't survived working for any obnoxious bosses yet. #8: She has the taking risks thing NAILED. She really puts herself out there in a way I still struggle to do.

My DD is 13 and we ... have a little ways to go. :001_smile:
