bluemongoose
I stayed in the Desert Palms last fall. It was about a 10 min walk to Disney and you can get a room with 4 queens and 2 bathrooms pretty inexpensive (for the area anyway). The pool was just hohum, but we were at Disney the whole time so it didn't matter. It also has free breakfast that isnt bad. We are going this year as a family for the first time and we are staying in the Park Vue Inn. 2 queens and a bunk bed. It is across the street from Disney. Again just an ok pool because the point of going for us is not the pool. It is also harder and more expensive to find a room for 6 people. If money is not a problem, the new Courtyard Marriott Theme park entrance has a water slide park. If you are taking less than 6 people the Howard Johnson is a favorite and the pool area is supposed to be great. They do not accommodate more than 5. JFSinIL
Tropicana a short block from resort entrance on Harbor. Or check Disney website for map showing all the Disney-approved Good Neighbor hotels (Tropicana is one of them). Cafdog
I'm an on-site person at Disneyland usually, but I have stayed at the Howard Johnson's, and was very happy with it. It's very walk-able to the parks, but a shuttle is available for a fee. Parking is free, and it's close to some off-property restaurants, which can save you $$$. The pirate splash/water play area is fun for younger children, but there is a regular pool elsewhere on the property. Stay in a "premium room" on an upper floor in Building 1 if you want a view of the fireworks. I haven't stayed at the new Courtyard hotel, but have heard great things about it. I think the new Great Wolf Lodge in Anaheim is now open, too - but not sure about the shuttle situation. Have a great trip!
