daijobu
One thing I've noticed is that for the most part, schools that don't have a big graduate program seem to be friendlier for undergraduate research, and that the commonality seems to be that they have faculty who are very, very active in research. I wonder about that balance between attending a large "name" school versus a smaller LAC with more opportunity for research. Which is more advantageous? Dmmetler
That's something I'm looking at and trying to balance as well. It gets even more complicated when research experiences for undergraduates are better at small regional universities or colleges than large flagships, but the competitiveness of the small regional university and strength of the university is a whole is not really comparable. In herpetology, I suspect that there are some small regional colleges where it actually would be better to have a BS from them (with research experiences) than from a "name" school when it comes to getting into grad school-but you probably would be in a pretty weak position in almost any other major.
