kateingr
Loved this article from Slate this morning about why to memorize poetry. (Fyi, the article has some salty language.) "...there is something strangely present about those strange rhyming couplets, marching two by two down your cerebral cortex, poems full of words and sentiments you neither understand nor use. Weirdly, they will start to remind you, as you hustle around campus for meetings and rehearsals and labs that seem terrifically important, that all of these pressures and deadlines and tests feel terribly urgent and real, but kind of aren’t. Not really."

arliemaria
I just listened to Pam Barnhill's Your Morning Basket #2 with Andrew Pudewa about memorization. Renewed me to go forward with memorization--especially of poetry. This is just another kick in the seat to get on it. Thanks!
eternallytired
I'm amazed at how many tidbits from Eliot still pop into my head--and that was just an interim class. (Though it inspired me so much that I took an entire semester on poetry thereafter and am still in love!) Oh, the glory of words, carefully chosen!
