gardenschooler
Hi all - I'm asking for my sister, who needs something to challenge her ds9. He's in school full-time, and needs a little more. I recommended Singapore Math to her, but since I've never used it, I have some questions: Should she have him take the placement test? Or is there a general level recommended to start? What should she buy? Text, workbook, and teacher's guide? Thanks!
JeanM
I would definitely have him take the placement test. Should she have him take the placement test? Or is there a general level recommended to start? I guess it depends on what she is trying to achieve. If she just wants to challenge him, she could just buy the challenging word problems. If she is trying to teach him new material to pique his interest, she could buy the text and workbook. I've never bought the instructor's guides myself, but some people seem to love them. What should she buy? Text, workbook, and teacher's guide? Jean
EKS
I agree with the Challenging Word Problems recommendation. For an afterschooler, or for supplementing another program, this will give you the best of the Singapore program. The word problems are truly excellent. nmoira
Don't forget Primary Challenge Math and Challenge Math by Zaccaro... OK, anything by Zaccaro. He might be a bit beyond the PCM, but some of the Einstein problems might still be fun. NIM is also a fave in our household.
