Ali in OR
I'm in the planning stages for my rising 7th grader. I will need a couple of books that will be the basis for some Advanced Academic Writing essays (MCT). This will be in addition to what she'll read for Lightning Lit 8 and some assigned reading for history. History will supplement Human Odyssey Vol 2, which I think is anything from Renaissance up to 1914. I could possibly use a book for both history reading and an essay assignment. This dd *can* read, but I'll call her a reluctant reader. Takes a lot of nagging. Shorter books work better, but I still want some good classics in there. She probably doesn't want the same books her sister used for the MCT work (Silas Marner, which worked very well for her sister, and Treasure Island which both sister and I thought was fine, but maybe a little too "boy-ly"). For the MCT work, having obvious themes to discuss and write about would be helpful. If you have favorite works for the history time period, share those too. Thanks so much!
