Michelle My Bell
If your child needed tutoring in reading because they were 1-2 grade levels behind, and you sought outside assistance can you please share what you did? I am looking for ideas for my about to be 3rd grade son.
ElizabethB
I have tutored hundreds of remedial students. I use similar methods with them all, but a different mix and method depending on why they are behind. Coming from school, a lot of nonsense words to overcome guessing habits. My homeschool students are usually either boys who just need a lot of repetition or they have underlying speech, language, or vision problems. I have charts to help with repetition, and use a variety of things in short sessions, with ideas for reinforcement by the parents. There are different things that cause me to suspect the other problems, I keep them in mind and have different resources and suggestions for each. Have you tried my online lessons? Have you screened for vision problems? Have you given the Barton screening to test for speech problems?
