Coursera/Stanford Online: Intro to Mathematical Thinking

Recommended Posts

I hope this is OK to post. Since we were talking about getting better as math teachers in another thread, I thought I'd post this here. I'm looking forward to taking it and wonder whether I'll learn much; I have always been "good at math."

Anyone else taking any coursera/edx classes to get better at homeschooling? Anyone else thinking of taking this one?

Any recommendations of classes you've liked?

ETA: here's the link.

This course begins as an introduction to logic in a mathematical sense, then moves on to mathematical techniques of proof (including proof by induction), and then briefly discusses some interesting topics from early number theory and real analysis (the last two weeks, which are not part of the basic course). Unless you have considerable experience with algebraic proofs, I suspect you will find a fair amount new material in this course.
