Biz-e-mom
Are there any good ones out there?
Murrayshire
We don't use any! That may change when we start high school and prepare for SAT and ACT tests.
Monica_in_Switzerland
Are you talking about the SAT/ACT, or just end-of-the-year standardized tests? For the latter, I wouldn't bother. For the former, I would maybe consider a roots based vocab program. Other than that, make sure your kids know how to fill out bubble sheets without losing their place, and other strategies specific just to the HOW of scantron style tests. Mystie
We take the IOWAs every spring, but don't prepare for them at all. Even though we don't do tests of any kind at any other time, the kids pick up on it fast. Filling in the bubbles for their names seems to be enough practice for how to mark answers. :)
Momling
I use the spectrum test prep workbook for a week before my daughter does end of the year tests. It's not that I think she'll get a better score, it's just that it's good to do a generic review of stuff that's common to her grade. For instance, she's working on algebra, but maybe dividing decimals is on the test and I've let her use a calculator all year, so doing arithmetic by hand for a week is good review in general. Similarly, we've often missed some topics in science or social studies that are on the test, so it's good to get a brief taste of those things. kirstenhill
I did a spectrum test prep book with my daughter before her first IOWA test - mostly because she has a personality that doesn't like change or new things, and I didn't want her first experience of a bubble test and multiple choice questions to be the test itself...just in case of freak out. :-). My DS is at the age now where our state requires testing, and I don't think I will bother with it for him - he is much more laid back and even though he had never done fill in the bubble multiple choice tests either, there is no way he would freak out about it.
