Miss Peregrine
I want to budget for DS's driver training but I am not sure where to put it. Since it is a one-time thing I don't want to see it in categories until the end of time but If I delete it, I believe it also disappears from the ledger and messes up the balance. Am I missing something totally obvious?
Guest
Do you have a category like "Activities" or "Lessons"? That's what I would do with it. I am only just learning YNAB, so there may be another solution, though. For example, in Quick Books accounting software for business, you can choose to "deactivate" categories, clients, etc., when you no longer need to see them in your active accounting. This way, it doesn't screw up past payments, but you don't have to keep looking at a client you haven't worked for in twelve years.
Paula in MS
You can hide it after you are finished, I think. I am not sure how it affects things beyond that, though. It will be listed under hidden categories.
Miss Peregrine
Those are both good ideas, thanks. I didn't know things could be hidden.
fraidycat
Yep, just hide it. Or use a broader category and note with how much for each item within that category, if need be.
Saraswati
You can hide it after you are finished, I think. Yes, there is a hidden category at the bottom of your budget worksheet. When you are no longer using a subcategory, you simply slide it down to the hidden area. If you only need it for a short while, maybe you can add it into another area, like school or even an entertainment budget - then you could add a little note to explain how that money was used for future reference. Miss Peregrine
Yay, I found it. :)
Aiden
I'd either hide it when I'm done with it or create a more general category: Education Expenses, Lessons, Special/Short Term Projects, etc.
