Momling Posted November 6, 2014 Share Posted November 6, 2014 We were doing some other physical science stuff earlier this semester, but now I want to get into a more formal physical science. I have the student workbook and was planning on having my daughter watch the videos on YouTube. Am I right in assuming that each section 1.1, 1.2, etc... is one lesson or do you break it into pieces? I noticed that the videos have like 1.3a, 1.3b, 1.3c, 1.3d, etc... How does that work for you? How long does it take? Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

When ds did the course, he followed the syllabus for each day. I'm honestly not sure exactly how long it took--maybe 30-60 minutes/day, 3 days/week?? That's a very very rough guesstimate.My understanding is that all the videos aren't available on Youtube, but again, I haven't really checked so I could be wrong about that. For example, week one has 1.1, 1.2 and 1.3, she does all the videos (1.1a, 1.1b, etc.) on day 1, and then completes homework 1A. Then she will do 1.2 starting the following day. If the videos are longer on one day then she will complete the homework the next day. She usually spends one hour a day, five days a week. We also do his Pre-Algebra and she loves both classes. We bought the course and it is exactly like what you see on the website. You print out the student notebook and the student follows along while watching the videos and takes notes and does the math along with the teacher etc. The presentation could be better. For example, you can see that some of the lessons have lots of parts. For example lesson 1.4 graphing motion is 1.4a-1.4i. But lesson 1.7 vectors is 1.7a-1.7c. So, some days there is a lot of science to get through and other days not so much. And if you buy it, what you get is exactly like it is on the sample. That means that every lesson is chopped up into bits of unequal length. I figured when we bought the actual course that it would be uncut videos, but it isn't. My son had to continuously start the next video to continue the lesson. It's not a big deal, but it annoying and seems unfinished. Plus, when you buy it, there is no way of knowing how long each segment is. Some video clips are 5 mins, and some are 12 and everything in between. There is no way to tell ahead of time how long a whole lesson will be. It makes it difficult to plan. And I am not sure that all the videos for the course are on youtube. When I look on his youtube channel it is only 4 chapters under the physical science playlist.
