Guest JennyJ
We bought a new microscope last year and want a science program that will make great use of it. I have a 10-year-old (5th/6th) and an 8-year-old (3rd/4th), and we would like to do this together. Any suggestions for a kit, book, or curriculum that is microscope-reliant? Secular, please. DeniseF
We are in the same boat. I haven't found a thing yet. We bought a 200-slide set to go with the microscope which is fun to look at but we don't know what to look for, how to see patterns or differences in, for example, epithelial cells from different animals or different body parts....etc. I hope someone has some insight. Guest JennyJ
So, I looked up "Adventures with a Microscope," -- and it looks interesting. It's an old book, but has 59 microscope activities in it. I couldn't see the lessons, but the reviews of this book are excellent. On a whim, I checked at Rainbow Resource to see if they carry this book. They don't, but they do have a Unit Study called "Microscope Adventure!" Cathy Duffy and others give it good reviews. It seems similar in purpose to AWaM, but geared toward homeschooling and possibly easier to teach. It's also affordable at RR -- $15 for the book and $6 for the lab sheets.
