DawnM
I was trying to sell a cell phone on CL. I got a couple of emails asking me for the IMEI number to verify that it was "clean" and not reported stolen, etc.... I have been reading online that you should't do this as people can do things with it (clone it, call and report it stolen, etc...) so I was pretty firm in not giving it out. Is this the right thing to do or am I just paranoid? Thanks, Dawn
AK_Mom4
Yes, don't give out the IMEI to people. There are ways to clone it and suddenly you get billed for hundreds of calls to Eastern Europe. Just say no on that one.
DawnM
Ok, thanks. He lived a ways away and ended up driving all the way down to pick up the phone, so I felt a bit bad about it. But he chose to drive that far so I guess it is ok. Dawn
Guest
That is why I use local Facebook swap groups instead. You can see who you are dealing with, and to be part of the groups, they HAVE to be local. If I cant see that the person I am dealing with is mutual friends with at least a couple of people I know, I make an excuse as to why I can't meet with them. Of course, I live where there is less than 50,000 people in the entire county, so that is a little easier to accomplish.
