Chemistry - A Self-Teaching Guide

Recommended Posts

I recently ordered this book for our daughter.

The book is fine and we ordered the biology and physics one also.

The problem is that the answer key does not show how to solve the problems, it only gives the answers. I cannot teach her this material. No one here can. She wants to learn and we would appreciate any suggestions as to a good self-teaching chemistry book or even program. Anything. Thank you so much.

Have you heard of Georgia Public Broadcasting Chemistry and Physics? There are free video lectures and printable worksheets online, and for the price of purchasing one DVD (~$30) you can get access to all the teacher materials including solutions. If you are looking for a high school level, simple get 'er done kind of Chemistry course, it might fit the bill for you.

Another suggestion is Chang Chemistry - we really enjoy this text and find it highly accessible. There is a Dr. Tang that has  online and print support materials to go with it, but they are a little overwhelming to sort out at first. At least they were for me. http://www.doctortang.com/index.htm

There is also a thread up top that discusses chem resources...
