Ohdanigirl
My son is preparing for the WH SAT while completing a World History class. He is searching for good quality videos, documentaries, etc to watch while he prepares. He has been reading a lot and studying a prep book but would like to add in videos. He feels he absorbs more when doing getting the info in different formats. I though I would heck I. Here and see what everyone suggests. Thanks. MtnTeaching
Has he seen the "Crash Course" documentaries for World History? I have not seen them myself, but here is the link and a review of it . It sounds as if it is fast paced and more of an overview, but it might be a good review.
Ohdanigirl
Yes. He loves watching those. He says they are pretty entertaining. Thanks.
MtnTeaching
Here are some PBS World History documentaries. Also, have you checked to see what your public library offers online? My ds is a board member of the non-profit fund-raising arm of our library. Until he started working with them, I had no idea that the library had access to so many educational online video collections. Our library does not make it very easy to find them online, but they are incredible. They offer thousands and thousands of free videos for instant viewing. MM2
Someone on this board referred me to the wonderful World History curriculum, rich with videos and other sources, at learner.org: Bridging World History. They're not AP prep per se, but they are college-intro-level and emphasize broad themes.
Anacharsis
Maybe Czechoslovakia 1918-1968? I believe it won an Academy Award in 1969: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NC-Y0Llktag Trance and Dance in Bali might be an interesting break from military history. It's a film by Margaret Mead about the religious practices of the Balinese as observed during her visits to Bali between 1937 and 1939 (Note: there is a bit of incidental nudity): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ruKduyXoBZw & http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iM23w-YeNOk
foxbridgeacademy
Not Doc's but great for review is Education Portal (I've been watching them for fun, I'm such a geek). I only recently found them, but I love the quick, concise way they present the material. Here is a link for AP History https://education-portal.com/academy/course/ap-world-history.html Also even more fun are all the History Channel Doc's on you tube. Here's a site that has links laid out Chronologically.... http://www.viewzu.com/
Anacharsis
Another one that might be interesting, Daybreak in Udi, a 1949 film about colonial Nigeria (low resolution, sadly). It won an Oscar and a BAFTA award, I believe: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tYJBjxWN95U Also, The Living Stone, a 1958 documentary on the sculpting traditions of the Canadian Inuit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K3R_7huyvy0
