Hunter
I'm over complicating this. Even the last time I was taking notes in the reading program, I stopped worrying about the phonograms. Even with the fewer Beechick set of phonograms, it's just going to take so much longer to teach the lessons. Spalding says to take 3 hours a day to teach Spalding style LA. I don't have 15 hours a week to teach a student Spalding style LA. Me knowing O-G is good, to better understand phonics, but I just cannot set aside the time to teach it. I knew that the last time I was preparing these pdf pages. That time I was trying to link the reading lessons up to the spelling lessons and again realized that was going to slow things down, and abandoned that project. So often, the easy way, the good enough plan, is the better plan. I am going to use manuscript-first and use the students notebooks as their primers, though. And after we finish copying the reading program (at least most of it), we will copy the spelling list, and again use that as a primer. Over and over at this forum, adults say the most important thing they did as children was read, just read. Read whatever was there, with no plan or schedule. They read. If long LA lessons take up too much time, that is time students are not spending reading. I've got to remember that.
