chelsmm
I chose level 1 of WWE for dd 8 and ds 6 for a few reasons. I wanted the kids using the same book. This way we can read the whole stories when they show interest instead of just the excerpts. Also it is our first year and I didn't know if we would like wwe and didn't want to buy two workbooks. I wanted the workbooks because it's premade. And it's their first year with the grammar. Turns out it is way too easy for dd. the writing is way too hard for ds. He has fine motor and handwriting issues and hates writing. He does fine with the grammar and narration. It's easy for him. Dd is learning cursive. She wanted to and enjoys it. What level WWE does cursive? Can I just have her do her copy work in cursive? I can write it first for her to copy I suppose. I would have to practice the HWOT font though! Is it a waste of time if it is too easy? I'm. It sure what they are getting out of it. Thoughts? Thanks, chelsea
EKS
If memory serves, WWE doesn't specify whether to use cursive. I think it is up to the individual teacher and student. As a side note, it's always ok to modify resources to fit your homeschool better.
RootAnn
I did cursive for my kids when we went through WWE because I teach cursive first. I just wrote the model out - on the board or on a sheet of paper. (My kids don't have a problem writing cursive from a print model, though.) I think it is fine for you to do it orally (no writing or little writing) for your ds6. If he's already doing handwriting as a separate subject, then you don't need to include the copywork. However, I shortened some of the models for my dd#3 when we went through WWE1. Don't be afraid to shorten the models as the year goes on and you ask him to write some. I also double-timed our way through WWE1. We did two days worth of work in one. I combined them with crafts because my girls adore crafts. It was sometimes just a cut-and-paste activity. Othertimes, it was more involved. Sometimes we "played a game" after we did our WWE lesson.
chelsmm
Thanks. I think I need to make it more fun. They like the stories and don't mind the questions or narration. DS maybe can skip the writing for now and dd can do cursive.
