Keychains for teens?

Well, sort of for safety, they make cool Lego people ones that are flashlights. Another thought is a small Leatherman tool, but they have to remember to take it off to fly, etc.

I've looked online a bit and now my mind is filled with self-defense needs...mace, personal alarms, kitty-shaped knuckle busters...I don't suppose I should expect them to carry that whole arsenal around :D. On the other hand, having something of that nature might be handy?

Well, lanyards are all the rage here. Ds has a lanyard, but I think at college he just uses a carabiner that he clips to his belt loop. Dd also has a lanyard but doesn't use it all the time.

Safety? Dd has mace that she will carry with her when she drives places after dark. Other than that, they have a key chain thing that will break a window in case of the car going into water and will slice a 'stuck' seat belt.

As for personal safety, I don't know. A whistle?

I don't know how accurate it is, but I read several months ago that heavy key rings will cause a car's started to go bad over time, so that's something to think about.
