k7sandra
My first and second grader are reading pretty much anything they pick up. I wasn't sure how much to focus on phonics given they are reading . My approach was to keep them reading and work on other skills, but not sure if Phonics still is needed (maybe for the spelling side?) I am using MCP Plaid Phonics and Spelling workout, but not sure if this enough. Prior to using this I had ordered Abeka and felt this was too much. Laura Corin
I stopped phonics at that stage. As you are using a spelling programme that includes phonics, I would think that adding extra would not be necessary. L
pollyanna
Once she was reading, the focus shifted to spelling.
mytwomonkeys
Once my kids were reading fairly well, we focused on syllabication. We used and loved HOP Master Reader deluxe. There is also Megawords & Im sure lots of other choices. That would be my suggestion though, to focus on mastery of syllabication.
coffeegal
Once she was reading, the focus shifted to spelling. :iagree: TWTM has a lmethod for using Spelling Workout to emphasis the phonics study in chapter 5. It's p. 53 of the 3rd edition.
Ellie
If they can read whatever they pick up, then I'd stop phonics. Spelling is a completely different thing, though, so I'd probably continue that.
