chickenpatty
I'm looking for something to break up our trip other than McD's. :) It needs to be a stop that is inexpensive (or better yet, free!), close to the interstate, takes less than 1 1/2 hours, and will be somewhat interesting to our crew of varied ages. Any parks or scenic places to picnic? Thanks!
Penguin
What is your route? I probably have some ideas for NC, but it would help to know which roads you are planning to drive. What major towns will be along the way?
chickenpatty
Probably 95, and possibly 85.
bnbacademy
Gatlinburg, TN, or Cherokee, NC ? These would be from I81, and not cheap... but fun!
Susan C.
Greenville, SC is cool! The downtown area is very walking friendly, there is a river, a monkey bridge, a park. Very beautiful!
Penguin
I am more familiar with that piece of I85 than I95. If you take I85, you could do LOTS college visits :) Also, Sarah P. Duke Gardens (Durham) Hillsborough - charming historical town - check out the Burwell School Historic Site International Civil Rights Museum (Greensboro - the Woolworth Sit-ins) Guilford Courhouse National Military Park (Greensboro) Might not be good for the pocketbook, but you could scoot over to Raleigh and stop at the homeschool bookstore !
