When do you start school?

We school by calendar year, Jan-Oct/Nov, with breaks. We "promote" grades in September.

 

I'm curious, when we tried a more traditional school schedule, I liked starting in September just after Labor Day. Granted, this was the start of my traditional school years as a kid. But more and more schools start in mid-August or earlier these days. Does that influence the start times for homeschoolers here? It seemed like there were more September starters when my oldest was in kinder, 5 yrs ago.

I usually start in July because it is so miserably hot.  We may as well homeschool when we have less opportunity to play.  It gives us the opportunity to enjoy nicer whether in October or April or whatever.  

 

This year, we have been dabbling all summer, started a bit more yesterday (so Aug 1st).  We'll ramp up to the Not Back to School Party, take that day off, then hopefully be on a full schedule from the 27th on.  School here starts on the 26th.
