mamato4girls
Need some suggestions, we are entering our 6th year of homeschooling so i am not new to this. But this particular child challenges me. We are in need of History, Literature, English, and an elective. 10th Grade She prefers textbooks, but is questioning her faith. She will use Christian books, but not sure if I should push them on her or not. She used to love to read but hasn't in awhile, i would prefer to not rely solely on textbooks. Need something with a schedule, or one easy for me to come up with so she is accountable. She works better with a schedule. She has had Geography. I want to save Government/Economics for Senior year along with some British Lit, and American History/Lit for 11th. So I am thinking either Ancient, World, or... My other kids have their curriculum so this would just be for her. Suggestions welcome!
AngieW in Texas
I can't give you any Christian suggestions because I'm not. My middle dd really enjoyed the textbooks that Oak Meadow used for history in high school. You can order the syllabus from OM and then buy the textbook used on amazon for <$10. The syllabus gives a weekly schedule.
Candid
I don't know what Tapestry of Grace has done with the new revamp of Year 1, but it strikes me that for a strong student who is questioning their faith it might well work for you. You examine other cultures in depth and read their literature while at the same time reading the Bible using two different books. Where you won't match your dd is that Tapestry uses separate books not one standard text books.
PeterPan
My first thought that came to mind for you was to use MOH 1 (and 2?) with her. It has extension activities, and if you do 2 books and enrichments, you've surely done enough for high school. It gives book suggestions, and they'll be of a style and level that might capture her interest. It would go back and give her a chance to reexamine her faith. It's something she could do independently. You know something else that helped my dd at that stage was a good summer camp. You might see if you have some options in that vein. PS. I think there's a yahoo group for people using MOH at the high school level. Obviously it's not a normal choice, but there are ways to make it work. There would be some advantages in this case.
