fairfarmhand
I've always had pretty light colored skin...so light that you can often see my veins through it. So, when do those visible veins become varicose veins? I have one on my upper thigh that is more visible than any others. It's not protruding from the skin, just a darker blue line. No pain, just looks ugly.

VeganCupcake
My understanding is that varicose veins are those in which the valves which prevent backflow of blood are weakened, so blood pools in them. Your visible vein may never become varicose--I think a large part of it is genetic, though also related to weight gain and standing a lot (not walking, because I think that keeps the blood moving enough). City Mouse
I have several in my calf that developed with the last pregnancy (11yrs ago). They have never caused me any problems, bit it is visually I appealing to me. I have never had anyone seem to notice. I also have very pale skin and have some very visible veins, but never cared. twoxcell
My varicose veins bulge out a bit. They aren't just visible. Does that make sense. Mine don't give me problems except when I was pregnant and they were forming, then they felt sore.
