Is anyone buying the new Lego EV3?

We had been planning on buying a Lego Mindstorm but when dh saw that they had another version coming out dh wanted to upgrade to the new model. We have a pre-order placed for ds' b-day present.

I've been thinking of placing a pre-order, but I guess I better do it soon.

 

My younger son has been counting down the days till the release for months now.

 

This is a pretty big investment, almost too big for a Christmas or Birthday gift, so my DH and I decided, for once in their lives, my kids will get the item for no reason on its release day.  This is extremely atypical for us.  My kids rarely get gifts outside of holidays, so they will be shocked with surprise.  Mostly it's my little guy who wants it (10, but very mechanically inclined), but I really couldn't give it to either child as a gift without including the other, so that's another reason it will be a surprise no reason gift.

I am thinking about getting this for DS. It is very expensive, but I know he would get so much out of it.

Dh really wants to get one! (For the kids... yeah, that's why...) :)

 

 

I haven't been able to get myself to order yet. Especially because I think we would need one per kid (and possibly one for the adult kid mentioned above...).

Ya, it is WAY bigger than our usual b-day or C-mas presents here as well BUT we are splurging. It also so happens that the release date is 2 days after ds' b-day so it works out quite nicely :)
