A home for their hearts
My dd13 told me she wanted to learn more about artists. I'm thinking of using Meet the Masters for our art curriculum next year however I'm wanting to add in some books of each artists. We will be using track A which includes Vincent Van Gogh, Claude Monet, Winslow Homer, Pablo Picasso, Mary Cassatt, Piet Mondrian, and M.C., Escher Thanks! sagira
The Artists in Their Time series looks interesting and just about right for this level. We own the Picasso and we are planning on using it next year for ds9's fifth grade studies. I'm also adding Linnea in Monet's Garden, which I think we will enjoy here. Ds (turning 10 just in time for fifth grade) enjoys the silly and the fun, and thus thoroughly enjoys reading Mike Venezia's Getting To Know The World's Greatest Artist Series, even though they may be a bit "young". I started reading these to him when he was in first grade, but since third grade he's been reading them himself and asks me for more :) Anholt's series is an excellent introduction too, as are the Katie series by James Mayhew. However, these I'm using primarily for my first grader who will be doing art with us, but I know ds will be glad to join in.
Walking-Iris
DK's Art is a great book. http://www.amazon.com/Art-Over-Works-Cave-Contemporary/dp/0756639727/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&qid=1374072150&sr=8-13&keywords=ART I love this book. Might be young, but we also like Lives of The Artists by Kathleen Krull
Michele B
We have been doing Artist Study for a couple of years - some times we do better than other times. :001_rolleyes: I made some Pinterest boards for specific artists. Here is Audubon http://pinterest.com/micheletb/homeschool-artist-study-audubon/ I found a biography-novel about him written in the 30s. That is the kind of book I search for. Kareni
It may not be quite what you're looking for, but I'm fond of this out of print book: Great Painters by Piero Ventura Regards, Kareni
