pjssully
Hi, My daughter is going to be taking some type of a chemistry course-not sure what exactly we will use yet. But in addition to a regular chemistry course, she wants to learn about the chemicals used in cosmetics. Does anyone have ANY information on where I might even begin to find information so I can create some type of plan? Strange, I know.... pam

My dd struggled with her chemistry course in high school, but was glad she had it when she started cosmetology school. It was a bit of a shock to hear her talking about chemical bonding at the dinner table. Perhaps tying in the chemistry of cosmetics and maybe even chemical hair treatments (heat adds another aspect), your dd might be better able to see the practical applications of chemistry. I will have my dd pull out the chemical sections from her texts and see if she can give you some areas to study.
Arcadia
Not strange. Plenty of chemicals in cosmetics some of which I am allergic to. The chemistry of cosmetics - very basic info http://science.howst...o.htm/printable Putting on a good face (Australian Academy of science) - nice text, further reading list and stuff http://www.science.o...083/083fur.html UCLA cosmetic chemistry course - just for your info https://www.uclaexte...es/courses.aspx ETA; Cosmetic research http://sciencecareer...193686088267351 "But there is also some very serious scientific research being done behind the marketing façade. To take just one example, L'Oréal alone has labs staffed with 2500 researchers and a team of dermatologists around the world, and the company registered 420 patents for innovative ingredients in 2001 alone." Potions and Lotions: Lessons in Cosmetic Chemistry (Science Buddies) http://www.sciencebu...Chem_p022.shtml "Did you know that cosmetics companies employ teams of specialized chemists to develop and test each new line of makeup, perfume, lotion, or soap? This science project lets you be the cosmetics chemist. It shows how to manufacture your own lip gloss in your kitchen using a short list of ingredients." Barefacts Science http://www.catie.org.uk/barefacts/science/science.htm "The Bare Facts site looks at everyday cosmetic products and considers why they are used, how they interact with our bodies and some of the science behind how they work."
