Jayne J
Dd is set on learning French, and I am looking over what is available. I wonder if anyone could help me narrow things down. I am looking for: Fairly inexpensive (no Rosetta Stone! :)) Oral/conversational with a CD for correct pronunciation Fun over rigorous For elementary age kids, but "not too babyish". (Dd is very conscious of not offending her dignity, so Little Pim is right out.) Any suggestions for where to begin looking? I had four years of French in school, so I know enough to help her, but not enough to read TMs in French (ie Alec and Zoe)
Miss Marple
Have you looked at Duolingo online? It's a lot like Rosetta Stone but FREE :) I've been playing around with the French. My only complaint is that the audio isn't always the best. I don't know if it's my computer or the program or my lack of French familiarity. wapiti
This won't help yet, but Getting Started With French is in development (assuming it'll be as great as GSWL, that's what I'd use when it becomes available).
KellyMama
We introduced French with SOS Elementary French - it was fun without being babyish. We've moved on to L'Art de Lire now and the kids love it.
DaffodilDreams
We love Duolingo! Dd9 uses it for French.
3andme
I like the Learnables. It's old style but I think effective esp. for younger children. They don't have to be able to read or write initially.
cpdragon
We just started with L'Art de Lire. The kids and I are both enjoying it. It has audio portions so we can hear correct pronunciation. The price is very reasonable.
