emcap
We have 5 kids 1 to 9.5 (we all enjoy hiking), could this be fun for a family with these ages? I've been doing a bit of reading on the geocaching.com site and it looks fun, but I don't want to buy a GPS if its better for older kids. Speaking of the GPS, any recommendations? I would be looking for the most economical but not frustratingly cheap model. Just anything you could tell me about your experience with it would be appreciated. Spryte
We love geocaching! DS is barely 9, little one is almost 2. Eldest kiddo is - gasp! - 20 something. We all love it. We use the geocaching and GPS apps for iPhone.

Guest inoubliable
Good information here when I asked the same thing last week.. http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/topic/450369-is-there-anyone-here-who-can-share-some-experiences-with-geocaching
Dandelion
We enjoy it too, and use the iPhone apps. I think it's great for younger kids because it's basically a "treasure hunt". We recently found one of the trackable Geocoins in a cache and had fun looking it up on the www.geocaching.com site to see where it came from and all the places it had been. DH is actually geocaching with DD4 at a local park right now! :)
sparrow
We have really enjoyed geocaching. I like that it's a hobby we can take with us on vacation, but I also love visiting areas in our own community that we've never been to before. We use some sort of Garmin eTrex, but I don't remember the model.

Guest inoubliable
No problem! :) Loads of good info there. We had planned to start this weekend but got hit with the snow. Ho hum. Next weekend, hopefully.
