mo2
Getting my 10yo to read 15 pages of a book is nearly impossible. But if I give her a graphic novel or comic book, she will devour the whole thing in one sitting. Are there any educational graphic novels out there, maybe history or science? Jayne J
Ds enjoyed the Monster Science series (Zombies and Forces and Motion, Vampires and Cells, etc). He tolerates the Max Axiom series. There is also the Manga Guide to Physics, which looks good. If you go to Amazon and enter 'Graphic Library' a bunch of stuff comes up--we've used some of the history based ones and while they are not out-of-the-park hits, ds enjoys them much more than standard topical history books. I think the Monster Science and Max Axiom books are offshoots of the Graphic Library collection.
Jayne J
Huh. Just found out that the same collection (Graphic Library) has a Graphic Shakespeare line...

Farrar
A graphic novelist - I think it was Jay Hossler? - used to have a web page listing comics resources for different subjects, but I couldn't find it so I think it may not exist anymore. Such a thing should exist...
Dana
Jay Hosler's books are great (Clan Apis, Sandwalk Adventures, Optical Allusions)
zoo_keeper
What about Larry Gonick?
Dana
What about Larry Gonick? My son got a couple of his for Christmas. I think the history ones work well, but the science ones seem a bit dry and are at (I think) a bit too high of a level for him (10 yo).
