Talk to me about AMC math competitions

We just received info about an AMC math contests being held at our Umbrella School in February. My 10 th grade ds is interested. He is in AoPS Geometry and has already done Alg 1 and Alg 2. He did well on PSAT. I bought AoPS volume 1 which I believe will help him prepare. What else should I know and how should I prepare him as we are jumping into this late?

Art of Problem Solving also has lots of older tests with solutions available.

The Art and Craft of Problem Solving (Zeitz) is another excellent book.

 

I agree with Sebastian, though, that working old test problems is probably the best prep.

Our homeschool group had five students brave the AMC 10 test this week.
