m0mmaBuck
I am looking for something for my 5th grader. I want to encourage him to be able to pick the main points from reading selection and then reconstruct what he read with a certain amount of detail. Would this be a good place to start? abbeyej
I think these are very good. The level varies a *lot* from one book to another, so be sure to look closely at samples.
Kfamily
We have a few of these and my younger dd has used some of it. We have the following: Fairy Tales (Book 2) Greek Myths (Book 3) Medieval Legends (Book 6) I agree with abbeyej, I think the levels do vary a lot. My dd used two stories from the Fairy Tales and has completed two of the Greek Myths. She really wanted to start with the last two in the above list and skip the Fairy Tales. Since she was new to this approach I had her do at least two from the Fairy Tales to be sure she could handle it. Once she proved to me she could I moved her to the other two books. They are heavy in the writing department, but I do think my dd learned a lot about how to condense the reading into smaller plot sentences. There is also a book for Tales From Shakespeare by the same author which I have and plan to use next year.
