PuddleJumper1
We just got back from our second meeting with our pastor. Our room is being painted next week. :001_smile: We're super excited. We've got plans for a sensory corner, play area and music/short DVD area. The children we have right now aren't going to do much with lesson papers and crafts but we will have a small table as well. So........... As parents of children with special needs what would you want to see in there? We'd love any and all ideas you've got. :)

PuddleJumper1
Remind me again of the ages/needs of the kids you are wanting to serve. Right now were targetting younger children. We currently have two boys in our church with Autism (one has a double diagnosis with other developmental issues) They are 10 and 12 ( functional levels of preschool and K/1). Children who don't fit into a traditional class due to their challenges. Our hope is to grow to work with older kids but for now we're talking up to about 8th grade which will be children who function much lower. Ottakee
How about simple building things? Wedgits are great for all ages. They are a bit expensive but can be used from an 18 month old level up to adults. They have cards with patterns for older kids to follow but can be played with free form and don't have choking hazzard pieces.

I was trying to come up with building toy ideas outside of the traditional wooden blocks.
Ottakee
Also, if throwing the blocks might be a possible issue, they do make "toddler" ones out of softer plastic. We have the regular ones at church and the kids just LOVE them--even the older kids will join the younger kids at times.
