BibleBeltCatholicMom
My daughter is writing her essay on whether circus/fair/et c "freak shows" honor God's creation. She needs a word/term/phrase that means what we think of but uses more neutral language. Can you think of something?
caroljenn
Oddities? Mutations? Maybe "Oddities Show" or something like that?
Wisco
Something about putting human anomalies on display?
elegantlion
Circus side shows?
*Michelle*
I think the old term was human side shows.
Candid
Gosh, I guess I'd consider using the actual term because part of what she is trying to prove or disprove is bound up in the very name.
BibleBeltCatholicMom
Thanks, guys, this is helpful. Well, Candid, my daughter has pretty strong feelings about it and I think she wants to use the negative lables in her list of cons. She wants to use more charitable/sympathetic language herself. MomatHWTK
For her side, perhaps she should just refer to it as putting human beings on display.
Candid
Thanks, guys, this is helpful. Well, Candid, my daughter has pretty strong feelings about it and I think she wants to use the negative lables in her list of cons. She wants to use more charitable/sympathetic language herself. Exactly the point. As an example think of Swift's "A Modest Proposal." He suggests a simple idea that is so revolting that it makes the reader consider the overall problem in a new light.
