Raini
Can anyone confirm that National Merit semi-finalists have to take the SAT instead of the ACT to apply. I've not seen anything in the paperwork, but I'm hoping... Ds took ACT already and will take the SAT next weekend, but it's really not a good time for him. Raini
Thanks for confirming. I was just hoping I was missing something... I searched confirming SAT scores and am feeling reassured that he's likely to be OK even if he doesn't get his best score. And there's always the December test.:tongue_smilie:. Kendall
Did you call and ask what the confirming score is for this year? I think NM will tell you what it is for this year. I think it is usually around 1980.
dirty ethel rackham
I thought the confirming score was a score compatible with the student's PSAT score. The PSAT score multiplied by 100 is supposed to give an idea where the SAT score should be. I didn't think there was a national score cutoff. From the National Merit people ... "Take the SAT® and earn scores that confirm your 2011 PSAT/NMSQT performance."
Raini
If this is correct, the confirming score is a national score - not an individually determined score. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/national-merit-scholarships/994755-sat-score-needed-confirm-psat.html
Kendall
Definitely correct as of last year. It is a national confirming score. I didn't know that they essay wasn't used. My son took it a second time to be sure to be over; he was close. He probably would have made it with his first score if they dropped the essay.
