If you wanted to spend one day and one night in NYC how would you accomplish the most in the least amount of time and where is a cheap but decent place to spend the night? We spent one and a half days in NYC this summer and stayed at a Holiday Inn downtown Manhattan (23rd and 7th? something like that). The first morning, we walked to the Empire State Building and went up to see the view, walked all the way to Central Park and visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Times square/Broadway in the evening. The second morning we went south, walked through Greenwich Village, took the Staten island Ferry (free!) over, past the Statue of Liberty, returned, walked Financial District and then went to the airport.
