Guest RSmith
I am looking for resources to help parents become better advocates for their dyslexic children. I found one course at http://www.wellspringlearningcenter.net. Do you know of other courses or resources?
Heathermomster
Take a look at Overcoming Dyslexia for Dummies. The title is ridiculous. Perhaps your local book store will have this on their shelf so that you can have a look. It's been ages, but a Dummies book about dyslexia helped me deal with the pesky school types immensely. Lecka
I was given advice to look at Wrightslaw. They have a website and a parent advocacy book. It was overwhelming to me the last time I looked at it, but now that I know more about what I would be looking for, I think it would be helpful. It was scary last year though -- there seemed to be lots of parents commenting on the blog posts or little articles who were not getting any kind of help at all for their kids. Locally, there is a reading center that offers parent workshops for dyslexia. Unfortunately they are 2 hours away and I have not found anything closer. But I found their info from Wrightslaw (on a link somehow) and I have liked them on Facebook. Susan Barton also came to a city 2 hours away from this summer, and I didn't make it there either.
